Two of these sold in the first 15 minutes of auction, so go check'em while you can!

I am SO excited that folks are liking these and procedes are going into a savings account for a Wacom Cintiq, so I can do even more work!

Star Wars Galactic Files Sketch Cards 100 - 109!

Sketch Cards 100- 109 of 109 for Topps' 2012 Star Wars Galactic Files!

These are my final contributions to the set.  The top two tiers are my attempts at triptychs, adding a collectible puzzle element to some of the cards.  Each card should be interesting on their own; but if you can get your hands on all three, it's an extra-special set!

I get to draw Star Wars. Yep...Star Wars. :)

I've been asked to do 100 sketch cards for Topps' MASSIVE "Star Wars Galactic Files" card set, scheduled for September!

I'm not usually one for being "star-struck" or crap like that but...common...I get to draw STAR WARS!  If I can't get giddy over that for a few minutes, what's left to live for?  lol

Here's a link to Previews' ad for the set!

Ten Ton Sketch Challenge - John Carpenter's The Thing!

Here's my interpretation of John Carpenter's "The Thing" for the Ten Ton Studios Sketch Challenge.

This Week's Ten Ton Studios Sketch Challenge...Amalgam!

This week's sketch challenge at Ten Ton Studios was to draw a character from DC and Marvel's Amalgam comics, where characters from both universes were thrown together to form their own strange creations.  Batman and Wolverine became "Dark Claw"...Superman and Captain America became the "Super Soldier"...Howard the Duck and Lobo became "Lobo the..." well, you get the idea.

I decided to pick a character that had been mentioned in the books, but never shown; giving me creative freedom with the sketch.  The character was referred to as "Doomnaut" at the end of a Super Soldier story.  Whether this was meant to be a splice of Doomsday and Juggernaut, or a splice of Dr Doom and Juggernaut, I have no idea...I went with the one I thought made the most sense.

Final Round of Mars Attacks! Sketch Cards

Thanks are due to Topps Cards for including me on this. I've been a huge Mars Attacks fan for a loooong time, and doing these has been a blast!

I hope whoever gets these cards feels like they got their money's worth, 'cause I know I got a lot out of their creation.

These were my first sketch cards ever...my first time working with quality markers and colored pencils, and I learned some neat tricks...I developed a new love for the brush pen. And, working on these sketches every day for over a month seems to have lit the pilot light on my creative fire...given my artistic goals a jump start, if you will.

Here's to carrying that over into the next project!

Brak-Brak Brak!  That is all.

Latest Approved Mars Attacks Sketches

I never say anything for these, but I had to mention a few points...

1. You have no idea how hard it is to do a tiny sketch of Big Ben in less than half an hour (the time limit I gave myself for most of the sketch cards) and keep it recognizable.  YMMV on how well I did.

2. The arm on the guy in the middle image is WILDLY off, and I apologize for it.

3. The baby Martian's cute, huh?

A couple of these feature the Earth Counter-Strike!

These are some of my favorites, so far.

The second one here is kind of me toying around with how I would have designed the Martians...more disgusting and malevolent.  I might do a few more this way.

And these are some color images from the Earth's counter attack on Mars.  I tried to put my own spin on the Earth soldiers' gear...the face masks on standard Army helmets just didn't do it for me.  :)

First Post and Mars Attacks! Heritage Cards!

Well, this is my first post using Blogger...I've had the account for a while now, but was never impressed with Blogger's limitations.

However, having seen the new layout options, it's gotten me excited now to try it out for a while!

And, what better way to start an art blog than a work announcement?

This spring, I've been working on 100 sketch cards for the June re-release of the original Mars Attacks! cards from Topps.

It's been an eye-opener, as I've always thought sketch cards looked super simple to do.  Take it from me, when you're doing a hundred cards, trying to put your best work on each one and you have less than two months to get them done, they're fun as hell, but NOT simple!  :)

Here's a one-shot of the first nine I finished, and I'll be posting more as I get them finished and scanned.
